September 2019 Calendar Page

I've taken a few days off from dolly pictures, but September is almost here, so I've picked up my camera again to make some new wallpaper for my phone. With help from my new Blythe doll Sea Sailor See, I put together this calendar page to use on my cell phone lock screen. If you want to use it too, please feel free! All you have to do is save this picture to your phone and set it as your wallpaper.

Here it is on my phone:

Doesn't it look like she's really taking her dog for a walk in the park? It's actually a photography background that I found on eBay, quite inexpensively! Now you know my secret.

Good Advice

Words to live by.

Williams(burg) Doll

I love taking pictures of my dolls, but sometimes I'm short of ideas; that's why I like the Blythe a Day groups on Flickr, because every day there is a photo prompt. This month, all the prompts are song titles with the word "doll" in them, and I've found them quite challenging. In fact, I didn't think I would participate because I wasn't coming up with many ideas when I first read the list. About a week into the month I decided to make an effort, and I have surprised myself by coming up with a lot of appropriate pictures. Today's picture is another example of me surprising myself: the theme is "William's Doll" (I've never heard of that song) and initially I planned to skip it, asking myself "Who could come up with anything for that???" I guess my subconscious was at work, because I a few days later, it occurred it me that I live in WILLIAMSburg, Virginia, and I happen to have this wooden sign with the city and state stenciled on it. So, I actually managed to come up with this picture for the theme William's Doll!

This Blythe doll is Bow Wow Trad, and she is wearing an outfit I made as a thank you gift for a friend who sent me a lovely package of holy cards, photos, a medal, and an embroidered hanky from her recent pilgrimage to holy sites in France (thank you, Stephanie! The package is in the mail!) The picture below shows it a bit better.

Doll Parts

A Blythe doll is more than just the sum of her parts. To me, she is a source of creative inspiration. What is she to you?

Have You Heard?

"Gossip is just news running ahead of itself in a red satin dress."
                                                                 --Liz Smith

Liz Smith was an American gossip columnist for several major newspapers, from 1976 to 2009. With gossip as her livelihood, it's no surprise that she would elevate it to the same level as news--and make it sound fancier by putting it in a red dress!

The doll on the left is Pretty Peony wearing the stock dress from Love Mission. The Blythe on the right is Mermaid Tasha. This picture is for the theme "Satin Doll" in the Blythe a Day group on Flickr.

Interview with a Cat Lover

"A true ailurophile is born, not made," says Ellie Blythe, in her interview for next month's Cat Fancy magazine. "A love of cats comes from the heart, and the accompanying lifestyle is born of the necessity to express ones' innermost being." You can read the rest of the interview in the September issue, available in stores now.

Blythe doll collecting is educational! I had never heard the word "ailurophile" until the announcement of the upcoming Blythe doll, Ailurophile Style. I am so pleased to learn that there is a word for my love of cats.

This Blythe doll is Ichigo Heaven, posing for the theme "Lover Doll" in the Blythe a Day group on Flickr. I made her dress and the felt cat she is holding, and I drew the pictures on the wall. The white cat and brown cat came out of "Amy's Favorite Cat" blind boxes. The pink and white cat came from a toy store; I don't know what brand it is.

You Can Quote Me

Heidi never misses an opportunity to quote a well-known saying.

Slightly Wicked

It seems slightly wicked to lounge in bed all day, reading magazines and eating sweets; but sometimes a girl needs to indulge herself.

This is Leading Lady Lucy, wearing her stock night gown.

Spilled Milk

A kind response is always the best response.

These Blythe dolls are Sea Sailor See (Neo) and Smiley Waffle (Middie), posing for the theme "Weeping China Doll" in the Blythe a Day group on Flickr (using a lot of creative license.) I didn't want to make a wet mess by using milk for the spill...so I made a dry mess with flour instead!

Rag Doll

The bed isn't made until the old rag doll is placed just so.

This is Leading Lady Lucy in her stock gown and robe. Isn't she pretty??!! The rag doll is one of the few Barbie accessories we have left from my daughter's childhood collection. This picture is for the theme "rag doll" in the Blythe a Day group on Flickr.

Time Flies

You might as well have fun!

This Blythe doll is Prima Dolly Violet, posing for the theme "My All Time Doll" in the Blythe a Day group on Flickr. The cute little alarm clock is part of a play set for Our Generation dolls. The dress she is wearing, which I chose because it looks so FUN, is from Blythe's Big Closet on Etsy.

Daddy's Doll

Here's a picture of my family when I was very little. Daddy used to hold me and call me his very own doll.

This gorgeous Blythe doll is "Magical World of Sugar Sugar Rune Chocolat Blythe"--I usually just call her Chocolat Blythe. She is posing for the theme "Daddy's Doll" in the Blythe a Day group on Flickr. I made the dress, and I printed the picture of Harry and Meghan from the internet.

Her Fabulous Doll Collection

It looks like it's time for Tillie to get a new set of shelves for her fabulous--and ever-expanding--collection of Sonny Angel and Lalaloopsy dolls.

Tillie is my Simply Bubble Boom Blythe doll. She's wearing an outfit I made just for her, and she's posing for the theme "Guys and Dolls" in the Blythe a Day group on Flickr.

Baby Dolls

There's no such thing as too many baby dolls!

This Middie Blythe doll is Yellow Marshmallow, wearing the stock outfit from Puchippu Chappu Pepa. The small dolls are various Lalaloopsy minis, and a troll. This picture is for the theme "Baby Doll" in the Blythe a Day group on Flickr.

Doll House

The doll house may be full of furniture, but it seems empty until she adds the dolls.

Sea Sailor See is wearing a vintage Barbie dress--I think. The seller included it when I purchased my Kenner Blythe a few years ago. The dollhouse is a Hallmark Christmas ornament from 2016. This picture is for the theme "The Doll House is Empty" in the Blythe a Day group on Flickr.

It's a Living

Because of her overwhelming love of books, Sophie always knew she would make her living as a librarian.

This is Sea Sailor See, posing for the theme "Living Doll" in the Blythe a Day group on Flickr. All of the themes this month are song titles with the word "doll" in them. I know I am straying from the obvious meaning, and I intend to do this with the remaining themes as well!

Although her eye chips look rather orange in this picture, they are actually pink.

Sea Sailor See

Sea Sailor See has finally arrived, and I love her in person just as much as I expected to! The de-boxing process was unusually easy, due to the fact that she doesn't come with a lot of clothes or accessories(!) In addition to the yukata she is wearing, she just has her hat, sandals, bag and stand.

I love the bright shades of blue that run through everything, including her eyes. She actually has two pairs of blue eye chips, which look amazing with her dark, two-tone brown hair. (She also has green and pink chips.) I'm excited about her short hair because it will be so easy to manage--and it's cute! It will probably benefit from a shampooing, but I haven't done it yet, and as you can see, her hair looks fine.

I think she will be quite versatile to photograph. She may be my new "grab and go" doll for those times I want to bring a Blythe outside for photos. That doesn't happen very often, but now that I have Sea Sailor See, maybe it will be a regular occurrence!

It's a beautiful day for a stroll by the water.

Today

Today is a gift; that's why it's called the present.

This message is brought to you by Prima Dolly Cassis. I keep trying to convince myself that her hair is dark pink, but no. It's red. Raspberry red. I like it, and I think she's gorgeous, but I have to accept it--it's not pink!
