October 2019 Calendar Page

It's time to update my cellphone with calendar wallpaper for the new month, starring a Blythe doll, of course! October's page has to be spooky, and Cloud 9 Bowl, with her orange hair, makes the perfect witch. She's wearing Milky Way Sugar's stock dress, and Chocolat Blythe's stock hat, cape, shoes and broom. Her kitty companion is a figurine of Jiji from the movie Kiki's Delivery Service. The background image is a print on canvas.

If you like this picture, feel free to use it on your phone too. Happy Halloween!

Here's how it looks on my phone's lock screen:

White

White...is not a mere absence of colour; it is a shining and affirmative thing, as fierce as red, as definite as black...God paints in many colours; but He never paints so gorgeously, I had almost said so gaudily, as when He paints in white.
--G. K. Chesterton

This is Blythe doll is Leading Lady Lucy. I've finally taken her out of her stock outfit! Doesn't she look lovely in white? This picture is for the theme "White" in the Blythe a Day group on Flickr.

Beautiful Sleep

"A well spent day brings happy sleep."
                                               --Leonardo do Vinci

Leading Lady Lucy looks so comfortable in the beautiful bed (complete with bedding) made by Abi Monroe of  FlorenceAndTaylor on Etsy, which I won at BlytheCon Brooklyn in 2017.

It's All About the Purse

Fashionable girls know that the purse makes the outfit.

The smaller doll is a Littlest Pet Shop Blythe doll wearing her stock outfit; the bigger one is Smiley Waffle Middie Blythe, wearing a Lotti Doll outfit. This picture is for the theme "Purses" in the Blythe a Day group on Flickr.

Red

I love this definition of "red" from the Oxford dictionary. Instead of using ordinary examples of the color that you would see in daily life, such as apples, tomatoes, strawberries, firetrucks or stop signs, they went for drama, with blood, fire and rubies.

Cinema Princess appears to be feeling rather dramatic herself, as she shows off her crowning glory for the theme "red" in the Blythe a Day group on Flickr.

She's a Star

You don't have to be a celebrity to be a star.

This is Blythe Adores Anna Sui, wearing Leading Lady Lucy's stock dress, posing for the theme "celebrity" in the Blythe a Day group on Flickr.

Shopping

Whew! Grocery shopping is a lot of work! There's nothing wrong with taking a little break before putting the food away. (Except the ice cream...put away the ice cream first.)

This lovely Blythe doll is Sea Sailor See. Her two-tone hair always looks pretty in pictures. This is for the theme "shopping" in the Blythe a Day group on Flickr.

It's a Secret

They were looking for a nice spot for their picnic, but what they stumbled upon was a secret garden.

These Blythe dolls are Ichigo Heaven (pink hair) and Simply Sparkly Spark (blue hair.) I hope there is just enough gingham in their dresses for this picture to qualify for the theme "Gingham" in the Blythe a Day group on Flickr! The background is a 3' x 5' picture printed on fabric that I found on eBay.

Bedtime Story

"Goldilocks and the Three Bears" is April's favorite story, because she loves teddy bears, and she really identifies with that naughty Goldilocks!

The Neo Blythe is Mermaid Tasha; the Middie is Nellie Nibbles. This picture is for the theme "Bears" in the Blythe a Day group on Flickr.

Happy Birthday

Why not celebrate every day like it's your birthday?

This Blythe doll is Cream Cheese and Jam, posing for the theme "Happy Birthday" in the Blythe a Day group on Flickr. The cake (with pop-up candles) is a Barbie accessory.

Quotable Quote

Who was John Wooden (October 14, 1910 – June 4, 2010), and what does he have to do with Blythe dolls?

The answer is: he was an American basketball player and head coach at the University of California, Los Angeles. Wooden was renowned for his short, simple inspirational messages to his players. These often were directed at how to be a success in life as well as in basketball. He has NOTHING to do with Blythe dolls!

This picture is for the theme "Wooden" in the Blythe a Day group on Flickr. Even though my house is full of many wooden objects, I couldn't think of a satisfying way to use any of them in a doll picture. When I Googled the word "wooden," the first thing that appeared was a list of quotes from John Wooden--and I always love a good quote! This doll is Jane, my Kenner Blythe.

Reading Material

The problem with buying a lot of used books at once is trying to decide which one to read first.

These are old library books that I bought on eBay. Apparently Catherine Cookson novels are no longer in demand and were taking up valuable shelf space! I just discovered this author, and my library only has a few of the 100+ novels she wrote, so I was glad to find these for a small price. I've challenged myself (on Goodreads) to read 100 books this year, so I need to have a steady supply of enjoyable reading on hand. These will keep me busy for a while and will take me past my goal (I've read 87 books so far.)

That's Bonnie, my Raspberry Sorbet (and my very first Blythe doll) on the top of the stack. This picture is for the theme "Novels" in the Blythe a Day group on Flickr.

Deliciously Bittersweet

Quinn always keeps a smile on her face, a song in her heart, and an extra large bar of bittersweet chocolate hidden in the back of the kitchen cupboard, for emergencies.

This is Princess Milk BisQuit de Q-Pot wearing her stock dress, posing for the theme "Bittersweet" in the Blythe a Day group on Flickr. I chose her for this picture because she has some sort of a chocolate theme going on...Q-Pot is a Japanese brand that seems to encompass a lot of products, but chocolate is part of their identity.

I LOVE the cupboard in the background...I found it at our local antique mall last year, but this is the first time I've been able to work it into a picture. It is made for a stuffed bear called Muffy Vanderbear, and the size is perfect for Blythe.

It's All About the Music

Let's hear a big round of applause for the amazingly talented new girl group, Sarah Shades and the Shade-ettes!

I made this picture is for the theme "S is for..." in what I thought was going to be the September Blythe a day group on Flickr...but due to some confusion, there is actually a different list for this month. How fortunate for me that today's theme is "Music," since I had already made this picture!

These Blythe dolls are, from left to right: Sea Sailor See, Sarah Shades, and Lady Camellia. Sarah is wearing her stock dress and sunglasses; the other girls are wearing dresses I knitted, and sunglasses from other stock dolls.

Love

The Bible said it, the Beatles said it, and now, Anna Sui says it. Love really is all you need.

The new Blythe a Day group for September starts today (of course, because it's September 1st)--but, the list of themes is usually posted a week or more before the new month starts, so everyone has time to think about it and start on the first couple of pictures...this month however, the list wasn't posted until this morning, so I had to get BUSY if I wanted to participate. Fortunately, the theme "Love" is an easy one for me, since I "love" hearts and have a lot of them! Anna Sui is wearing a dress I made with a heart pocket; the little stuffed hearts were part of a 365 Heart a Day blog I did a few years ago; and the heart artwork was something I received in a craft swap. I've done pictures for this theme before, so I wanted this to somehow be different, and I accomplished that with the colors: I avoided the obvious pinks and reds and, using the heart artwork at my starting point, went with turquoise and purple instead.
