Book Report

Oh, the unparalleled agony of trying to write a book report on a novel that she neither enjoyed nor understood. At least it was fun using the antique typewriter.

This doll is Raspberry Sorbet, posing for the theme "Bloomsday" in the Blythe a Day group on Flickr. I had never heard of Bloomsday before so I looked it up. It's an annual celebration of the life of James Joyce, on June 16th--the day his novel Ulysses (set in 1904) takes place. The protagonist is named Leopold Bloom, hence the name Bloomsday. I've never read Ulysses, but I found it for free on Amazon for Kindle, so I downloaded it and will try to find out what all the fuss is about, because I also found out that it is considered by many to be the greatest novel of the 20th century! The things I learn while photographing my dolls!

Back to Nature

Take time to wonder at the mysteries of nature.

This is another picture from the past...I took it in 2016. I'm happy to have a chance to use it again for the theme "Back to Nature" in the Blythe a Day group on Flickr. The Blythe doll is Raspberry Sorbet; the little woodland creature is a Sonny Angel.

Reading Material

The problem with buying a lot of used books at once is trying to decide which one to read first.

These are old library books that I bought on eBay. Apparently Catherine Cookson novels are no longer in demand and were taking up valuable shelf space! I just discovered this author, and my library only has a few of the 100+ novels she wrote, so I was glad to find these for a small price. I've challenged myself (on Goodreads) to read 100 books this year, so I need to have a steady supply of enjoyable reading on hand. These will keep me busy for a while and will take me past my goal (I've read 87 books so far.)

That's Bonnie, my Raspberry Sorbet (and my very first Blythe doll) on the top of the stack. This picture is for the theme "Novels" in the Blythe a Day group on Flickr.

Dolly Meet-Up

Come on, everybody, grab your dolls and meet us at the big tree in the park. It's a beautiful day for a dolly meet-up!

These two are my very first Blythe doll (Bonnie, on the right, is Raspberry Sorbet) and my newest girl (Picnic Al Fresco, on the left.)

Way back in 2012, I chose Raspberry Sorbet for my first Blythe because I loved her long brown hair, which reminded me very much of my own hair during my teens and twenties. This year, I decided to purchase Picnic Al Fresco as soon as I saw her pictures, because she reminded me of Bonnie, my first Blythe love! She seems to be a "new and improved" version of Raspberry Sorbet. I like her stronger makeup colors, and the shape of her bangs is better.

Holly is the name  I've decided on for Picnic Al Fresco, just because I like that name and surprisingly, I haven't used it yet for any of my other 60 or so dolls!

Summer in the Country

My name is Bonnie, but my friends call me Lucky. See why?

She is Raspberry Sorbet, wearing Country Summer's stock dress, for the theme "Country Summer" in the Blythe a Day group on Flickr. The inspiration for this picture came when I found this four-leaf clover in the yard...I quickly got Bonnie dressed and we went out on the back porch...I took several shots of her, and then called it quits because it was HOT out there. When I looked at the pictures on the computer, I was sorry to see that none of them showed the clover in it's true glory; you can just barely make our the fourth leaf above Bonnie's hand.

Making the Best of It

If you are forced to be stationary, you might as well try to enjoy it.

Don't worry--Raspberry Sorbet is expected to make a full recovery. This picture is for the theme "stationary" in the Blythe a Day group on Flickr.

Friendly Bears

There's always room for one more friend.

Raspberry Sorbet with her bear collection, wearing a t-shirt embroidered with a bear which I made several years ago.

Get Ready

It's the perfect day for a snowball fight. Ready?

This is Raspberry Sorbet wearing an outfit I made just for her...brown and pink are her colors. The scarf was an experiment that turned out well. The snowball is actually a little ball of felted wool. The background is a piece of scrapbook paper. It looks quite realistic, doesn't it? We rarely get snow here in southeast Virginia, but we just got half a foot of snow overnight--I could have taken a picture like this outside today!

The Perfect Tree

Since they were unable to reach a consensus on the perfect tree, they agreed to disagree.

I got the idea for this picture from images that are quite common at this time of year, of a tree tied on top of a car...I thought it would be cute to have trees being carried in and on different types of transportation, so these girls brought out their bike, wagon, and sled.

They are, from left to right: Yellow Marshmallow (middie), Raspberry Sorbet, and Lady Camellia.

Jingle Bells

It sounded like a good idea when Bonnie suggested it: "Let's go around the neighborhood and sing 'Jingle Bells' to spread some holiday cheer!" But now, standing in front of the first house, Bonnie and Grace both have a bit of stage fright.

They are Petit Dejeuner and Raspberry Sorbet, the first two Blythes I bought when I got interested in them in 2012. It's been five years, and I have close to 60 dolls now!

Happy Thanksgiving

"If the only prayer you said in your whole life was 'Thank You,' that would suffice."
                                                                       --Meister Eckhart

Today is Thanksgiving Day in the US. Whether or not you are celebrating this holiday, we wish you a happy day! Bonnie (Raspberry Sorbet) is wearing the stock coat and hat from Mod Molly, and I skirt I made for her. I don't remember where the boots came from!

Outerwear

No matter what the weather forecast says,
Bonnie has an outerwear solution!

Bonnie (the first of my many Blythe dolls) is Raspberry Sorbet. She is wearing her own stock coat, with earmuffs from Lavender Hugs, a scarf that I knitted, and the dress from Winterish Allure. The brown and pink bear hat and matching sweater were knitted by yours truly, and those boots are from Lavender Hugs. Next in line are pieces of UFO A Gogo's stock, and the raincoat and boots are from Playful Raindrops.

This picture is for the theme "Outerwear".

Snow Day

She's just a little girl in a great big snowy world.

This is Bonnie, my Raspberry Sorbet Blythe doll. We got our first snow of the season yesterday, here in Williamsburg, Virginia--about 8 inches. The snow plow hasn't come near our road yet, so we aren't going anywhere for a while.

Reindeer Encounter

In an amazing coincidence,
Bonnie happened to have a carrot in her pocket
on the very day she encountered a wild reindeer
coming out of the woods.

This is Bonnie, my Raspberry Sorbet Blythe doll. She was my very first one!

Autumn Beauty

No spring nor summer beauty hath such grace
as I have seen in one autumnal face.

John Donne (Elegy IX: The Autumnal)

This beautiful face is Bonnie, my Raspberry Sorbet Blythe doll.

Isn't the quote from Donne just perfect? I took this picture, then looked for an appropriate quote online. I've heard of John Donne before, but didn't know that he was a 16th-century poet. This Blythe hobby makes me smarter!

Look and See

It's not what you look at that matters,
it's what you see.

--Henry David Thoreau

While others passed by without giving the shrubbery a second glance, Bonnie (Raspberry Sorbet) looked more closely and saw something unusual.

Picnic

Blythe a Day on Flickr
Theme: Carry that Weight

"Whew! This basket is getting heavier by the minute! I think we should stop right here--this looks like a good spot for our picnic."

Middie Nellie Nibbles, and Neo Raspberry Sorbet Blythe dolls. The Neo, Bonnie, is wearing the stock outfit from Country Summer. I almost bought that doll, but then I realized that she is very much like Bonnie, and it was just her outfit I loved--so I bought the outfit for Bonnie.

After Church

Blythe a Day on Flickr, 3/22/16
Something Tiny

After church on Palm Sunday, Faith and Bonnie compared the little crosses they had made from their palms.

Faith is Pow Wow Poncho; Bonnie is Raspberry Sorbet.

Musical

Blythe a Day on Flickr 1/16/16
Musical

Somewhere in the Appalachian mountains, a pair of musical sisters practice their act and dream of being discovered.

They are Petite Dejeuner and Raspberry Sorbet. I found their amazingly detailed instruments at Yankee Candle--they are Christmas tree ornaments!

Education

Education

Teachers have THEIR work cut out for them--THERE is so much that has to be taught.  How will students learn it all? THEY'RE going to have to do the homework!

The teacher is Bonnie, my Raspberry Sorbet blythe doll.
