Fun, Cubed

They don't know that the Rubik's Cube was invented in the late 1970's by Erno Rubik, a professor from Budapest, Hungary, or that it became a worldwide craze in the 1980's. They just know that it's fun. 

These are my Candy Carnival Blythe dolls, Daphne and Waverly. The teeny-tiny Rubik's Cubes, and the girls' outfits, were gifts in the goody bags at BlytheCon Brooklyn in September 2017. My husband came with me to that event, so I got two goody bags! This photo is for the theme "The '80's" in the Blythe a Day group on Flickr.

I made this picture to say thank you to Suzanne Kamal on Facebook, who knitted this cute hooded sweater and donated it to BlytheCon Brooklyn. It was the prize I won with the scratch-off card in my goody bag.

Last but not least, I want to show off what was in the goody bag I received at BlytheCon Brooklyn. Here it is: 

It was full of so many things! About half of it was donated by people who make and sell things for Blythe; some of them gave coupons, while others included the actual items (I can make a whole outfit with the top from Mota, the skirt from Tiki Doll Designs, the stockings from The Daughter Who Sews, and the hair bow from Earth Angels Studios! The remaining half of the items were bought especially for the goody bags to fit the 1980's theme. They include the cute mug, a rubic's cube for me and a tiny paper one for my dolls, stickers, an enamel pin, lip balm and a note pad. 

Every goody bag had a scratch off ticket that revealed the number that could be redeemed for a prize. My husband was with me, so I got to claim his scratch off prize too! I got this beautiful hand-knit sweater from Suzanne Kamal/Ruby Begoina (I know Suzanne on Facebook!), and a pair of floral dresses with long socks from MiniJijo on Etsy. Thank you both!

I also want to thank everyone who donated and especially the organizing team who worked so hard to put together this amazing event. I truly appreciate this labor of love. It was a wonderful day of talking, shopping, and sharing our love of Blythe.

BlytheCon Brooklyn Raffle Prizes

At the end of my last post I teased you with a picture of me clutching this box in glee...and one reader actually knows what's inside. Colette messaged me to say that she suspects that it contains a set of bedding, and an actual bed, from Florence and Taylor on Etsy, and she is correct!

Look at how gorgeous this is!! Layer upon layer of soft and beautiful covers, and a lot of matching pillows, two of which have Brooklyn and BlytheCon images on them. The color scheme is so soft and pretty. 

The bed is quite lovely too, with the tufted headboard. What you can't see is that the set also includes a perfect little mattress. I wish I could sleep in this bed, but I have to leave it to my Blythes. Maisy, my Spright Beauty, seems to love it.

I still can't believe I won this fabulous gift. Thank you Abi Monroe!

But wait--there's more! I won another prize in the raffle drawing: this very cute Blythe-sized bicycle. It's pink! Perfect! Bridget (Allegra Champagne) will be the first to give it a try. 

It's hard to believe, but I still need to make another post to show you the rest of the loot I got from BlytheCon Brooklyn. My goody bag was full of fun little things that I want to show off. 

BlytheCon Brooklyn, Oct. 22 2017

To get to BlytheCon Brooklyn, my husband and I left early in the morning and drove to Washington DC (from Williamsburg Virginia), then took the train into NYC. Are we there yet?




When we first arrived at 26 Bridge Street in Brooklyn, the crowds were so thick around the 37 vendor tables that I couldn't see a thing! Later in the afternoon I went upstairs to a small balcony to take this picture. The vendors are all in the front half of the space (they also line the walls to the right and left of this picture...I couldn't get everything in). 






































Looking up, you can see that this is a wide-open building with lots of light coming in from above. Gidget was quick to make friends with the dolls next to us at our table.

These were my favorite vendor tables:

Zolala! from the Netherlands. I love the Blythe-size wagon and the two custom dolls giving a musical performance! I guess a lot of other people liked this display too, because it won Best Vendor Display.

I Have Wings from Argentina. I adore the hand-drawn city scenery!

Hanon from Japan. Simple and elegant. (This picture was taken later in the day, when most of the items on the table had already been sold.)

Earth Angels Studios from the USA. There was so much to see in this display! Dolls, clothes, stuffed animals...it was a feast for the eyes!



Dolly Treasures from the UK. The dolls in her table display were posed so perfectly, with so many little details all around them, that they really looked alive.




Chu Things from Australia. The three girls standing on a patch of grass was simple but eye-catching; and of course the dresses are amazing!

In addition to the beautiful vendor tables, there were hundreds, if not thousands, of Blythe dolls to look at! Stock dolls are my favorite, but I gained a greater appreciation for custom dolls by walking around and looking closely at them all. My two favorite custom dolls are in the next two pictures.

First favorite: I love the girl on the right who looks like a broken china doll.

Second favorite: the duck-face girl in the middle. She is so unique!

I won two prizes in the raffle at the end of the day! In my next post I will show you what I won. What do you think is in this box that I am so happy about?

BlytheCon Brooklyn, Here We Come!

Tomorrow, Oct 22nd, is when BlytheCon Brooklyn happens!

I've decided to travel light: one doll (Gidget, my Cherry Beach Sunset), one bag (to carry tickets, a map, snacks, and money), and most importantly, my very helpful husband, who will be instrumental in getting me to the Con. We will leave our house in Virginia shortly after 4:00 a.m. tomorrow, and, since the train doesn't leave Williamsburg early enough in the morning, we will drive to Union Station in Washington DC and from there, catch a train to New York City. Then we will take the subway to Brooklyn, arriving at the venue around noon. When everything is over at the end of the day, we will travel back to Virginia, arriving home around 1:00 a.m. It will be a long day, but a fun one! In the coming week I'm looking forward to posting a lot of pictures from the event.

Getting Ready

Preparing for a trip is half the fun!

Gidget is preparing to come with me to BlytheCon Brooklyn on Sunday October 22nd. I bought tickets many months ago, even though I wasn't sure if we would actually go...but everything has fallen into place, so my husband and I will be on the train bright and early that Sunday morning, heading for Brooklyn! Gidget (Cherry Beach Sunset) is the obvious choice to come with us, since the theme doll for the Con is "tan dolls". There is room in my doll carrier for one more, so I may also bring my most special girl, my Kenner, Jane.

Blythe Con Brooklyn Donation

A few months ago I was contacted by a member of the BlytheCon Brooklyn organizing team, asking if I could make a donation for a raffle prize. I was happy to say "yes", and today I am even happier to say that I have finally finished my donation! This is my new girl Jill (Home Sweet Home) modeling the outfit I will be sending to the Con. 

The pink dress fabric is one of several that was designed especially for this Con's theme of "The 1980's". It features scattered cassette tapes (hey, I remember those!) in different sizes. This four-piece set includes a sleeveless dress, a hairbow made from the same fabrics as the dress, a short-sleeved wool sweater, and a wool felt shoulder bag with a cassette tape on the front, also made from felt. 

In addition to the dress set, I will also be donating one of my new Blythe Happy calendars for 2018. It's hot off the press! I had it made at Snapfish, and it looks really good.

BlytheCon Brooklyn will take place on October 22, 2017. I hope to be there!
