These silly girls are Precocious Candy’s Mushroom and Cream Cheese and Jam. The tree they’ve chosen is actually a live plant that I was about to deliver to my mom to brighten up her living space.

December 22, 2020: Taco Time

 In the small town of Blytheville, fish tacos are a Christmas tradition.

You’ll never guess the actual theme of today’s pictures. Go ahead, try. 

The theme is Present for your Pet. Did you guess correctly? About two months ago, we bought this taco truck/kitty house/scratcher for our eight cats for Christmas. It’s been tucked away in a closet since then. I was thrilled when I saw this theme appear on the Blythe a Day list for December! 

It looks great, parked in front of the doll house I splurged on recently. The doll house is part of the Magnolia line of products sold at Target. The taco truck came from Target too.

The theme is “something from old holidays,” which is why she is surrounded by those huge Christmas tree lightbulbs. I think of them as being very old fashioned.

December 13, 2020: Best Friends

 Best friends don’t argue about who will steer the sled.

These BFF’s are Simply Lilac and Simply Peppermint. I have a couple of other doll sleds and a great toboggan, so I didn’t need to buy this one (which was part of a Starbucks gift set with a  big mug and some coffee) at Target yesterday. But my husband, the enabler, was with me, and when he saw me eyeing it, he said “Go for it!” So I did!

December 12, 2020: Games

 Playing games together on Christmas Day is a family tradition here in the Andersen household. When the children were younger, we usually played board games like those in this picture (can you see them under the Blythes?) In recent years we’ve chosen a newly-released game that has gotten good ratings, such as Azul or Photosynthesis. It’s a good way to have fun together. These Blythes are, from left to right, top to bottom: Cinema Princess, Enchanted Petal, Sadie Sprinkle, Elegant Ellie, and Leading Lady Lucy.

 Have you heard? The hot new hair style this holiday season is the “Cindy Lou Who.” Visit your stylist and ask for it TODAY!

The long-suffering Allegra Champagne endured my styling attempts to make her hair defy gravity...in the end, I had to do this picture as a flat lay, because that hair would not stand up!

December 8, 2020: Cherished Memories

 Cinema Princess and Enchanted Petal are my helpers today, as we show off my Christmas stocking for the theme “Cherished Memories” in the Blythe a Day group. My mother made the stocking for me when I was a baby and I’ve used it ever since. It’s in pretty good shape for being 60 years old, considering that I used to play with it in the days before Christmas by actually wearing it around the house! Sadly, my mother now suffers from memory loss, but she still remembers some things, and she remembers making this stocking.

Here’s the whole mantel. It looks pretty much the same every year!

December 5, 2020: Book Club

What do you do when your book club meets in an hour and you haven’t read the book? SKIM IT!

This picture started out looking Christmas-y...there was a green wrapping paper background, a red and green dress, and the book itself is “A Christmas Carol.” But as I worked on making the picture interesting, it seemed that the most impact was with a close up of Elegant Ellie, and all the holiday elements were lost.

I’ve never been in a book club, but my cousin is in one, and she says that some of the members (mostly the women with small children) don’t ever read the books—they just come for the wine and friendship!

December 4, 2020: Shop Til You...

 Have you ever shopped til you dropped? Patty Patch doesn’t recommend it! At least she got all her Christmas shopping done.

Cherry Beach Sunset is the perfect doll for the theme “living on a tropical island.” As I was putting the picture together, the phrase Mele Kalikimaka started running through my mind. The song was written in 1949 by Robert Alexander Andersen. Have you heard of it before? I must have heard it when I spent Christmas in Honolulu once when I was in college. My parents had moved there for my father’s job, so I had a great Christmas break, and returned to school with a head-turning tan!

December 2, 2020: Winter Sports

 Anyone can join in, but you have to pick a team: “Merry Christmas” or “Fresh Cut Trees”?

Can you name these four Blythe dolls? They are, from left to right: Picnic Al Fresco, Petit Dejeuner, Patty Patch, and Chocolat Blythe. I decided to do a snowball fight for the theme Winter sports (in the Blythe a Day group) even though it’s a game rather than a sport, because I have these cute buckets of snowballs ornaments from Target and I really wanted to use them in a doll picture!

December 1, 2020: View From My Window

After spending hours making the snowman, Cassis has her fingers crossed that the weather stays cold and cloudy for a while.

 I am so happy with this photo—it’s the best one I’ve taken of Prima Dolly Cassis. I also love how blurry and sparkly the snowman looks out the window. I’ve started using my iPhone for doll pictures and I really like it.

 It's time for a comparison shot: Cadence Majorette and her new friend, Tokyo Bright. Inquiring minds wanted to know whose hair is the lightest? As you can see, it's Tokyo Bright. I love getting a new doll! This is Tokyo Bright; I just opened her after admiring her in her box for a few weeks. She's a nice distraction from reality.

Feels Like Fall

 

Hello--I'm back! I'm so excited to be taking doll pictures again! For the past month I've been very busy, worried and preoccupied with making appropriate living arrangements for my elderly mother, who can no longer live alone. I finally feel that she is settled and content, so I can relax and be happy again...and that means playing with Blythe.

I'm very pleased with this picture of Sarah Shades. I didn't intend for it to have such a strong Halloween feeling to it, but I like it! 

Just Working on Her Tan

 It may not be the most comfortable beach for sunbathing, but it is certainly one of the most beautiful.

Miss Sally Rice is relaxing on a jigsaw puzzle I recently completed. I love the bright colors in this one. 

Whose Birthday Is It?

 Every day is SOMEONE's birthday; so, Happy Birthday To You, whoever you are!

Simply Bubble Boom is standing on the cake shop puzzle I recently completed. There was a piece missing in lower right corner; I was sure it had been taken by Mochi, one of my Siamese cats, but I looked and looked and couldn't find it, so I took this picture and put the puzzle away. A few days later I noticed Mochi chewing on something--it was the missing piece! She had hidden it in her kitty house. Bad kitty!
