Dig In

"I think I'm going to need a bigger spoon!"

This is Playful Raindrops posing on a fun ice cream themed jigsaw puzzle I just completed. We just happened to have the perfect "sprinkles" dress in our wardrobe.

Be Happy

Prayer Flag #3: Be Happy

When I participated in a prayer flag craft swap a few years ago, we each gave our partners ideas for themes and colors that we would like--that's why there is a lot of turquoise in the flags I received! This one has so many interesting elements. It is made of several layers, with sheer netting on top. The bird was (computer?) printed onto another layer of netting. There is a combination of machine and hand stitching throughout, and all the threads were left long and dangling. This happy doll is Playful Raindrops.

Be Yourself

"Always remember that you are absolutely unique. Just like everyone else."  --Margaret Mead

It's Nice

Life is good. Let's all have a nice day.

This Blythe doll is Playful Raindrops, wearing a Blythe Happy dress. The background is a page from a magazine. The glass of lemonade in her hand is from an Our Generation Dolls play set.

Perfect Balance

Practice is going great on their balancing act for the holiday talent show. They only drop a few things now (instead of the whole lot!)

Prima Dolly Amaryllis (left) and Playful Raindrops (right) are wearing cute dresses and hats from my friend Amy. Aren't they adorable! Thanks Amy! The bright, fun colors and prints told me that they should be in a playful-looking photo.

Trick or Treat

In preparation for the big night, Marina is taking the newbie trick or treaters on a dry run. On Halloween they shall leave no doorbell unrung, no candy untasted.

In preparation for the big night, Marina is taking the newbie trick or treaters on a dry run. On Halloween they shall leave no doorbell unrung, no candy untasted.

Marina is my Playful Raindrops Blythe doll, wearing a dress I made and a Frankenstein hat from Poppy Tree Lane on Etsy. The petites are Littlest Pet Shop Blythes, wearing outfits from camillel (Miss Behave) on Etsy.

BBQ

Everyone's invited to Marina's backyard barbecue. Let's eat!

This Blythe doll is Playful Raindrops. The grill came from Target; the hot dogs and hamburger are erasers. I made the background and the dress. The apron came to me in a swap. This picture is for the theme "BBQ" in the Blythe a Day group on Flickr.

Lemonade

Her secret recipe has often been copied, but her lemonade has never been duplicated.

This Blythe doll is Playful Raindrops. The fabulous lemonade pitcher, glasses, and bunting are from a play set sold at Target for Our Generation dolls. For the theme "Lemonade" in the Blythe a Day group on Flickr.

Happy Birthday To You

If today is your birthday--HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

If it's not your birthday, remember: life is short. Eat the cake.

April Fools

Taking advantage of their sister's tendency to sleep like a log, the girls pull off an epic April Fool's prank.

Playful Raindrops is sleeping; the others are, from left to right, Cadence Majorette, Stella Savannah, and Cousin Olivia. The gorgeous quilt, pillow and sleep mask are by Angie Coppi of Goodnight Sweet Blythe on Facebook. The coffee shop and sidewalk is a photo printed on fabric that I found on eBay.

The Christmas Spirit

As strange as it may seem, I made this picture for the theme "Bad Santa" in the Blythe a Day group on Flickr! After I took the picture I noticed that there was empty space at the top and bottom, so I added the words. Now it would be more appropriate for "Christmas Spirit" or something similar. Anyway, the story to go with it (before I added the words) is this: "The man she hired to hand out gifts at the children's Christmas party canceled at the last minute. What a bad Santa! Fortunately, Marina had a Santa's Helper outfit in her car, so she quickly changed her clothes and the party went off without a hitch."

This Middie is Bubbly Bliss. Isn't her stock dress lovely? And Playful Raindrops looks cute in Frosty Frock's stock outfit.

Ice Cream Time

Live life LARGE.

I had a fun surprise this week: a friend who was downsizing her dolly closet sent me a box of Blythe clothes! Yay!! Thank you Susan! I love stock outfits, and there were several in the package, including this top and trousers from Fruit Punch. I put them on my Playful Raindrops for this chalk board flat lay. The glasses are from Prima Dolly London, and the gold bag is a key chain from Target.

May the Fourth

May the Fourth be with you...and every other date in May, too!

I happen to love the month of May; in fact, it is my favorite month of the year, so I wanted to celebrate it accordingly (sorry for skipping the Stars Wars reference!) This picture was inspired by the work of an artist I admire, Geninne, who makes a free monthly calendar painting that can be used as wallpaper on your computer or cell phone. So yes, I did put this on my phone as wallpaper! It's a bit big though; I need to work on resizing it.

This is a chalkboard flat lay. The two dolls are Yellow Marshmallow (the Middie) and Playful Raindrops (the Neo.)

Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire

Marina suspects that Jubilee may be a world-class liar.

Jubilee, on the left, is Simply Thumpty Thump. Marina is Playful Raindrops. The painting was my birthday gift from my artist daughter. This photo is for the theme "Tell a Lie Day" in the Blythe a Day group on Flickr.

It's Spring!

The calendar says it's spring...and the daffodils say it's spring...but the temperature, not so much!

It was snowing here just two days ago, but yesterday, when I looked out the window and saw the beautiful daffodils, I knew it was time for a "spring" photo. I gathered up an armful of blonde Blythes and went outside to set them up near the flowers. I decided to pose them in their stands because the wind was really blowing, and they were all in danger of tipping over at any moment!

They are Playful Raindrops, Mrs. Retro Mama, Cousin Olivia, and Prima Dolly Marigold.

Water

Marina says: "To look and feel your best, drink lots of water every day!"

This is Playful Raindrops wearing her stock dress, posing for the theme "water" in the Blythe a Day group on Flickr. I have been a bit lacking in inspiration recently, so I used this simple formula that always works for me: 1 doll + 1 background + 1 prop = a nice, easy picture. The background is a page out of a magazine.

Painting En Plein Air

The weather has warmed up, making this a perfect day for some plein air painting. Marina grabbed her art supplies and headed to the nearby lake, where she was pleased to find a swan swimming near the shore, practically begging to be painted.

This Blythe doll is Playful Raindrops.

Isn't this swan painting charming? It was my Christmas present from my artist daughter. I asked her for a doll-sized painting of an animal inside a frame, and I was so excited when I saw this--the colors are perfect, and the swan is gorgeous. It makes me want to make a little doll room with a swan theme, with this as the focal point. (She also painted the background in this photo...it's a large canvas that was a Christmas gift two years ago.)

This will be my last post for a couple of weeks, because I'm going out of town to spend some time with my mother. See you later!

Pizza Problem

"I ordered a large."
"I think that's a small."
"I'll go make a salad."

I love the little dollhouse props I sometimes find in craft stores, but they are often too small--1:12 scale, instead of 1:6 which works best for Blythe. But there are ways the smaller things can be used, as in this picture. I've also discovered that changing the camera angle can make something look bigger or smaller in relation to a doll, so it's possible to make a small prop look bigger (or a big prop smaller.)

That's Entertainment

Who needs TV when there's a new jigsaw puzzle to put together?

These Blythe dolls are Cousin Olivia (left) and Playful Raindrops (right). Their hair color is exactly the same, but their skin tones are quite different. When I saw this Japanese puzzle with such tiny pieces at the local Barnes and Noble bookstore, I had to buy it for them--they've made good progress on it already!
