This Blythe doll is Penelope, my Snowflake Sonata, wearing a dress from The Windy Hill on Etsy. I hope she decides to read today! Next to Blythe-ing, reading is my favorite thing to do. I just finished "The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek," by Kim Michele Richardson. It is based on real people who lived in the Appalachians in the 1930's; I enjoyed the story and I learned a few things! Are you reading anything good right now?

Unbearable

Snowflake Sonata is one of my favorite Blythe dolls, mainly because of her hair--it's long, straight, and PINK! This picture is #12 in my Valentine's Day 2020: Kitschy Valentines series. I made the outfit, and the cute blue bear was made by Maria Van Bruggen.    

Snow Much Fun

If they had remembered to bring a thermos of hot chocolate, their afternoon of snowman building would have been perfect.

Would You Rather...

Grand Opening

It is a picture-perfect day for the grand opening of the Smiley Waffle ice cream stand at the park. Opening day special: large cones are half price!

These girls are, from left to right: Snowflake Sonata, Smiley Waffle, Nellie Nibbles, and Yellow Marshmallow. When Smiley Waffle first arrived here, I did an ice cream themed picture, so when I saw that today's theme in the Blythe a Day group was "Ice Cream," I thought I would skip it. But...a new girl needs more pictures, so I tried to think of something different. I realized that her box looks like an ice cream stand, so I removed the plastic window from the front of the box, and everything came together cutely.

Happy Trio

Ice Cream

Four little words can make any day better: "Who wants ice cream?"

The girl on the left is Smiley Waffles; she just arrived here this week. I love her curly two-tone yellow hair. On the right is Nellie Nibbles, wearing the dress-like apron that is part of Smiley Waffles' stock. It looks perfectly good as a dress all by itself--how great is that! The Blythe Neo in the middle is Snowflake Sonata, wearing a lovely new dress given to us by our friend Angie Coppi, made by TheWindyHill on Etsy. Thank you Angie! The girls are enjoying ice cream cones that I found recently at a toy store; I'm thrilled that they are the perfect size for my dolls.

This is the ever-lovely Snowflake Sonata, for the theme "Button" in the Blythe a Day group on Flickr. I love this button-y dress I made when I first got into this fun hobby. This theme was easy for me because I have a huge button collection!

World Party Day

"Let's pretend to have a party! I'll be the birthday girl!"

Three things happened before I thought of making this simple picture:

1. About a month ago, when I was shopping and I saw a lovely framed chalkboard that I didn't need, and for which I don't have any wall space...but I LOVED it. However, since I couldn't think of a good reason to get it, I left the store without it.

2. One day last week, I had the pleasure of watching my daughter create a work of art, on site at the business where it will hang on the wall...the medium was white chalk paint, and the canvas was a chalkboard. It looked like fun. Interestingly, I didn't even think about the pretty framed chalkboard at the time; but the seed was planted when I saw how much a person could do with chalk on a board.

3. A few days ago, when I was scrolling through some doll photos online, one picture really grabbed my attention: someone had drawn a background for their Blythe on a chalkboard, and put her on top to look like she was in the drawing.

--and suddenly I was jumping into my car and heading across town with my fingers crossed, hoping that the chalkboard I had seen last month would still be there. It was!!! Hooray!!! I quickly bought it, and some chalk, and went home to experiment with them. Here's another picture of the chalkboard so you can see the frame. Pretty, right?

This is my first attempt at a chalkboard flat lay photo. I like the simplicity of the background combined with the 3-D doll; it really makes her stand out while also setting the scene. It solves a problem I run into frequently when thinking of a photo of a doll: I know what kind of a background I would like, but I don't have anything like it on hand. With a chalkboard I can draw anything I need. A chalk drawing doesn't take long to do, and it's fun! I have a hundred other ideas now, so there will be many more chalkboard flat lays in my future.

Morning

NOT a morning person.

Snowflake Sonata is reluctant to leave the beautiful bed and bedding from Florence and Taylor that I won at Blythe Con Brooklyn.

A Christmas Carol

Their family tradition of reading "A Christmas Carol"  during December is just one of the things that makes the season so special.

Choose Happiness

For me, collecting Blythe dolls is about choosing happiness. Dressing them, brushing their hair, taking their photographs; sewing, knitting, and crafting for them...just makes me happy!

Pink Hair

I recently posted a picture of my blue-haired Blythes; today I am pleased to present my pink-haired girls. I've added their stock name abbreviation under each one, and just for clarity, I will write them out below. The abbreviations I used came from the app called "My Dolly Collection for Blythe"--I've noticed that different people sometimes use different abbreviations, which can be confusing. This app is the first thing I've found that conveniently lists every Neo Blythe (even the very newest, not yet released dolls!) in an easy-to-navigate app for my phone and iPad. It is a work in progress; future updates will allow you catalog your personal collection (I can't wait!) 

I've left out my peach-haired girls from this line-up...the difference between peach and pink can be quite subtle, so I understand that some people might classify them differently. I was going to include Dainty Biscuit, and I actually took a picture with her in the group, but she just didn't look right and I had to take her out--even though her hair is officially "pink". Another confusing moment came when I realized that Prima Dolly Peach has pink hair! That's her, second from the right.

It's Mother's Day in the USA today. My wish for every mother around the world is that you will have a day full of blessings and happiness!

The sky is blue, a warm breeze is blowing; the birds are singing, the trees are blooming...this is February??

Snowflake Sonata is wearing Junie Moonie Cutie's stock dress. (I don't own Junie Moonie Cutie--I just have her dress!) These pictures are for the theme "Stripes".

If I could only have one Blythe doll, I'm pretty sure I would pick this girl. Her hair is so long and smooth and easy to manage, and it's PINK! Her eye colors are fabulous (no orange!--just pink, blue, gray and purple) and she has special brown eyelashes. All that, plus a pink pull ring, make her my ideal Blythe.

Good Habit

When Penelope gets up in the morning, 

the very first thing she does is to make her bed.
