A Victorian Lady in Colonial Williamsburg

I don't photograph my dolls in public very often, but for today's theme, "Victorian", I made an exception.

My husband and I frequently walk through the restored area of Colonial Williamsburg, near where we live here in Virginia. It is a living museum, open to the public, and it costs nothing to walk all around (but you do need a pass to go inside the buildings.) When I told him that I wanted to bring a doll with us for pictures, he quickly nodded and said "Sure, I'll hold her for you." Wasn't that awesome of him! But I wanted to take a picture from a low angle, with her standing on the ground as if she was a life-sized person. Here's my picture. The building in the background is called the Governor's Palace, because it is so grand, and was the home to Virginia's first governors in the 1700's. Perhaps you've heard of Thomas Jefferson? He lived here from 1776 to 1779.

This picture was taken on a long, grassy field called the Palace Green. On warm days it is swarming with people, but this day was rather chilly, so there were few people and I wasn't too self-conscious about setting up my shot in public. The only person who seemed to notice us was a man who walked up and stood right next to us, looking at the Palace--but he didn't say a word!

I realize that the Victorian era was in the 1800's, so Dainty Biscuit and her outfit are out of place--but still, doesn't she look nice? Some day I will de-box Dauphine Dream and bring her to Colonial Williamsburg for pictures--her stock dress is exactly right for that time and place.

This is Dainty Biscuit.

Fashion Favorite

A simple sleeveless dress with a fitted waist, wide skirt and an interesting hem...fun shoes...something in the hair...that's the recipe for our favorite fashion style.

I had so much fun editing this picture (using PicMonkey) that I've included two bonus edits, below! The theme for today is "Fashion Favorite." The girls kindly agreed that the dresses I make for them are their favorites! Thanks, girls!

I love this one that looks like a Polaroid. Since the sides are cut off, it has a very spontaneous quality to it.

Who are these charming girls, you ask? From left to right: Can Can Cat, Ms. Retro Mama, Simply Thumpty Thump, and Prima Dolly Amaryllis

This is February??

The sky is blue, a warm breeze is blowing; the birds are singing, the trees are blooming...this is February??

Snowflake Sonata is wearing Junie Moonie Cutie's stock dress. (I don't own Junie Moonie Cutie--I just have her dress!) These pictures are for the theme "Stripes".

If I could only have one Blythe doll, I'm pretty sure I would pick this girl. Her hair is so long and smooth and easy to manage, and it's PINK! Her eye colors are fabulous (no orange!--just pink, blue, gray and purple) and she has special brown eyelashes. All that, plus a pink pull ring, make her my ideal Blythe.

Tessa Dreams

Tessa dreams of polka dots
and dollies in her hair;
she's so sad when she awakes
and finds they aren't there.

This is Prima Dolly Peony, surrounded by part of my collection of Lala Loopsy minis. This photo is for the theme "Dots".

Beach Girl

Gidget submitted the wining slogan for the new clothing
company, Mango Season, and she won a modeling contract!
This ad, from her first photo shoot, will soon be in all the fashion magazines.

This photo is for the theme "shirts with words on them."

My friend Sara Ricer made the outfit as part of a swap we did a few years ago. She made up her own brand (Mango Season), and carved a rubber stamp to put the logo on the shirt and bag. She also made the cute denim skirt with a frayed hem and colorful patches.

Gidget (Cherry Beach Sunset) is wearing her stock hairband--which was surprisingly difficult to put on in such a way that it would stay in place and look okay!

Fashion Failure

Later in the day, Marina will be mortified to discover that her skirt is inside out, her shoes don't match, and she's trailing a toilet paper streamer.

But for now, ignorance is bliss.

Marina is my Playful Raindrops Blythe doll.

The Perfect Companion

Our perfect companions never have fewer than four feet.
--Collette

This Blythe doll is Playful Raindrops. This photo is for the theme "hood", but obviously, I went in a completely different direction with the quote. I love the way the quote is worded...I try to imagine the companions we might have with five or six or more feet.

A wonderful knitter made the hooded sweater for my dolls in one of my very first Blythe swaps...and I'm sorry to say I don't remember her name any more. It's a really nice sweater! Marina is also wearing Ms. Retro Mama's stock red dress, along with the hard-to-find cherry boots that I DID find last year! The tights came as part of the Takara boot set.

Hard at Work

Would you believe...the hardest part of making this dress
was sewing all the buttons down the front!

This is Beryl, my Enchanted Petal Blythe doll. This photo is for the theme "Buttons".

Sparkle

Ann always wears a little bit of sparkle. It's her signature style.

This is UFO A Go Go.

Shoe Confusion

Jane was almost ready for the party, when suddenly
she was paralyzed by confusion.
Which shoes go better with her outfit?
The black, or the gold???

This is my Kenner Blythe doll. Jane always has a dazed and confused look to her, so she is perfect for this sort of photo.

Cute Stockings

Gidget had to dig through all her drawers to find
just the right stockings to wear; but the effort
was totally worth it because
they coordinated with her outfit perfectly.

She is my Cherry Beach Sunset Blythe doll. The cute stockings arrived as an unexpected gift from a Facebook friend--thank you Julie Blake!!!

In the Pink

According to Fleur, pink is not just a color, it's a lifestyle!

This is Charlotte des Fleurs. Obviously, this picture is for the theme "pink"!

Blythe Adores Anna Sui

I was fortunate to win the chance to purchase Blythe Adores Anna Sui in the lottery at Junie Moon. She arrived here a couple of weeks ago, but as she was to be my Valentine's Day gift, I had to put off opening her for a while. Wow, she was worth the wait!

It's not very obvious in this picture , but...SHE HAS PURPLE HAIR!!! A Blythe with dark purple hair has been one of my wishes for quite a while, and now my wish has come true. And she has a set of purple eyes to match!

Recently I've started taking a picture like this of each doll as I take her out of her box--this flat layout with everything that came in the box serves as a good introduction to a doll...and it also helps me to remember, in the future, which little things belong to her! (Not that it really matters, but sometimes I want to show off a doll in her stock, and I might not remember which tights were hers, for example.)

Everything about her is well done. I especially like her pull ring, which isn't a ring at all, but a sort of plastic charm that says "Ann Sui". Her hat is wonderfully big and soft and furry. Her tights fit well and weren't too hard to put on. Her boots are pretty, and they are "left" and "right" which is a nice detail (although I'm afraid there will be some people who get two left or two right boots! I haven't heard of anyone with this problem yet, but I know it happened a lot with Minty Magic.) Her outfit looks like a skirt and blouse, but it is really a one-piece dress, which is well-made and pretty. All this plus panties, earrings, bag and sunglasses, and she is ready to go!

When she's dressed from head to toe in her stock outfit, Anna Sui is downright sophisticated.

I had a request to show her side-by-side with Lady Camellia, from the back, in daylight, to compare hair colors. Here is that unedited photo, below (Lady Camellia on the left and Anna Sui on the right). It's a terrible photo in terms of composition, but it is good representation of their actual hair colors. You can see that Anna Sui has beautiful hair: it's long, wavy, and thick.

This doll gets an "A+" from me; there's nothing I dislike about her--I highly recommend her.

I Choose YOU!

Nothing says "I love you" like a tiny pokeball in a bottle.

I gave this bottle to my husband for Valentine's Day...
we're big Pokemon Go players. He thought it was cool.

Would you believe that this photo is for the theme "Boots"??

And can you believe that this is the first photo I've posted of my amazing new Blythe Adores Anna Sui doll??  I really wanted to use her for this theme, since I just took her out of her box and she has great boots! But I needed to show off this little bottle that was in the package I showed last week...so this is all you will see of her, just the side of her head, her hands, dress, and boots...
...until tomorrow!

Happy Valentine's Day

I'm sending out great big Valentine's Day hugs to all my readers!
Have a happy day and I hope you have time to play with your Blythes!

This is the ever-beautiful My Melody Blythe doll.

Life is Just Awesome

Anything is possible for a girl with a great attitude
and a bag full of wubba chikins.

Mod Molly wears the monkey-and-pineapple print dress, knit bag, and hairbow I made just for her. This photo is for the theme "Print or Paisley". (We don't have any paisley!)

Outerwear

No matter what the weather forecast says,
Bonnie has an outerwear solution!

Bonnie (the first of my many Blythe dolls) is Raspberry Sorbet. She is wearing her own stock coat, with earmuffs from Lavender Hugs, a scarf that I knitted, and the dress from Winterish Allure. The brown and pink bear hat and matching sweater were knitted by yours truly, and those boots are from Lavender Hugs. Next in line are pieces of UFO A Gogo's stock, and the raincoat and boots are from Playful Raindrops.

This picture is for the theme "Outerwear".

Best Friends Forever

There is nothing on this earth
more to be prized
than true friendship.

--Thomas Aquinas

For the theme "casual": Maisy (Spright Beauty) keeps it casual with a simple dress. Pants-less Sonny Angel is ALWAYS the epitome of casual.

Mod Style

London. She's mod, and she knows it.

Prima Dolly London rocks her mod stock dress, paired with the very high white boots that belong to Prima Dolly Melon.

Write it On Your Heart

I think Stella Serendipitous looks awesome, wearing her short stock dress.

I've just discovered that Ralph Waldo Emerson said a lot of great things! I hope to use more of his quotes in the future.

This is for the theme "Lady in Red."

When Pearl Appeared

A hush fell over the party when Pearl appeared,
because she was dressed in pink from head to toe,
and was attended by a pair of adorable minions.
She was magnificent!

From left to right: Little Milk Heart, Sadie Sprinkle, and Dainty Biscuit Blythe dolls. Oh, and of course, the two little Sonny Angels who just joined the family--they are from the 2017 Valentine's set. I only bought two blind boxes, and I was super excited when I opened them and saw that I got the very two that I wanted--the bear and the kitty!

What's in That Box??

An anonymous package arrived for Susie,
just one day after the fortune in her cookie read:
"A romantic mystery will soon add interest to your life."
Could it be from a secret admirer?

Yes, this is SUSIE, not Sally. Sally was in yesterday's photo. Both are Miss Sally Rice Blythe dolls.

Let me tell you about this cute package: it contains a tiny gift for my husband for Valentine's Day. It just arrived today, so I wanted to take a dolly picture with it before giving it to him. What's in it? A tiny bottle with a Pokeball inside, from EyMyMessage on Etsy (click on the name to go to the shop).

Our favorite activity together is playing Pokemon Go, so when I saw this...and saw that I could get it wrapped in a perfectly doll-sized box...there was no question in my mind that I had to get it for him (yes, I plan to keep the box for my dolls!!!)

This picture is for the theme "jeans" in the Blythe a Day group on Flickr.

Stock Outfit

"I'm going to the store. Need anything?"

I love Miss Sally Rice and her stock outfit...but those shoes are weird! That's okay with me, though; I've come to appreciate all the strange quirky things that appear in the different stock outfits.

Warm and Fuzzy

After putting on their warm and fuzzy pajamas,
Bree and April always play a board game
with their animal friends before bed.

These Middie Blythes are Lena Elena and Nellie Nibbles. The pink bunny suit is Nellie Nibbles' stock outfit; the kitty suit is the stock for Melomelomew. Did you guess that today's theme is "warm and fuzzy"?

Lace

On their way to church, Heather and Kitty are feeling extra pretty because they are wearing--what else?--their Sunday best.

These Blythes are Middie Puchippu Chappu Pepa (Kitty) and Neo Blythe Prima Dolly Violet (Heather). Heather is wearing Veronica Lace's stock dress--the most lacy thing we own, and perfect for today's theme, "Lace".

Paris in Winter

Everyone else thinks Paris is the most enchanting
in the springtime...but Anastasia prefers Paris in winter.
She wears her fur coat, strolls the boulevards,
and enjoys the sights without the bother of crowds.

This is Stella Serendipitous, wearing a Barbie "fur" coat

Plaid

Did someone say "plaid"?

These two cuties are Bow Wow Trad (left) and Stella Savannah (right), both wearing parts of their stock outfits. Since their stock is plaid, it was only right that they should get to model for today's "plaid" theme.

Every Day is a Good Day...

Wearing her new floral skirt and matching shoes,
Penny feels that this is a good day to go shopping. Of course,
Penny feels that every day is a good day to go shopping.

This is Cloud 9 Bowl, wearing the stock outfit from Fancy Pansy. The bag is actually sold as a key chain at Target (It was easy to cut off the hardware used to hold keys.)
