Portrait of Jane

Jane was in total shock when she saw the gift her sisters gave her:
a life-size portrait of herself, painted by a famous artist,
in honor of her one-year anniversary in the family.
Now THAT'S a gift!

This sweet Kenner Blythe did indeed come into my dolly family one year ago, on Christmas day. This year, my daughter Jenna painted her portrait for my Christmas gift! I love it!

The other two Blythes in this photo are Mod Molly, far left, and Sadie Sprinkle.

Beauty Sleep

Did you know that some of the most sophisticated
young women still sleep with stuffed animals?

This is the very sophisticated Bridget, aka Allegra Champagne, enjoying her beauty sleep in bedding by Angie Coppi (Goodnight, Sweet Blythe on Facebook).

Alien Hunter

This is Ann. She is a certified Alien Hunter.
So far, she hasn't spotted any aliens,
but she HAS seen several UFO's,
so really, it's just a matter of time...

Other people have named their UFO A Go Go Blythe dolls really appropriate things like Roswell or Luna. Since those fabulous names have already been taken, I decided to go with something simple and sensible. Ann.

UFO Has Landed

I've been waiting...and...waiting for UFO  A Go Go to arrive. It seemed as if everyone in the Blythe doll groups on Facebook had received her already, and I was getting impatient! Finally, today, the wait was over when the mailman rang the doorbell.

I love her! Look at that hair! The color is beautiful and it is really full and has lots of body. She comes with a lot of pieces of cute stock, too, which is great. My favorite pieces are the glasses and the boots. Oh, and can you see the tiny alien in one of the black squares on her dress? Cute!

First, I wanted to take this picture of her with everything as it came out of the box. In a day or two I will fix her up with all her accessories and take a few more pictures. I can't wait!

T'was the Night Before Christmas

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
while visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads.

My sweet little Petite Blythe dolls were the perfect models for this photo, because they close their eyes when they lie down. Thank you to Angie Coppi for the gift of this wonderful hand-made winter bedding set.

Good Habit

When Penelope gets up in the morning,
the very first thing she does is to make her bed.
Isn't that a good habit?

Penelope is my Snowflake Sonata Blythe doll. Many thanks to Angie Coppi, who gifted me and my dolls with this beautiful winter-themed bedding set (throw, pillows, and sleep mask) that she made just for us.

Reindeer Games

Come on, everyone!
Grab a reindeer and join in the fun!!

Grace is my Petit Dejeuner Champs Elysees Blythe doll. I love this big deer I found at World Market...I saw it and thought it would be the right size for a doll to ride, and I am happy to see that I was right!

Snowman Weather

Bonnie's snowman-making skills are at their best
when she knows she has an audience.

Bonnie is my Raspberry Sorbet Blythe doll. The little Blythe and her dog are from the Littlest Pet Shop series, called Cold Weather Cute.

Reindeer Encounter

In an amazing coincidence,
Bonnie happened to have a carrot in her pocket
on the very day she encountered a wild reindeer
coming out of the woods.

This is Bonnie, my Raspberry Sorbet Blythe doll. She was my very first one!

In order to avoid stressing about what to wear

Warm and Cozy

When it's cold outside, it's so cozy on the sofa by the fire.

Perfectly Matchy

This is Veronica, my Bow Wow Trad Blythe doll, modeling a new outfit for a friend. I'm so pleased with how pretty her face looks in this photo...and I know that sounds funny, because all Blythe dolls look somewhat similar, right? But sometimes I look at the face on one of them and I just swoon. I guess that's why I have approximately 5 million Blythes, and counting!

Reading, Part 2

Why does an interruption ALWAYS happen
just as you get to the most exciting part of the book?

Juliette (Sadie Sprinkle) will deal with this distraction and get right back to reading her book.

Travelling with Dolls...or Not?

Last week, my husband and I flew down to Little Rock to visit my mom for a few days. While we were travelling, I posted this picture on my Facebook page, and someone commented "I know there's a doll in that bag!"

LOL! I wish there was a doll in my bag, but I've resigned myself to the fact that I am really much happier taking dolly photos indoors. I've tried taking a doll out with me a few times, and between feeling self-conscious about people looking at me, and the difficulty of juggling the bag, doll, and camera, and the time it takes to set up the shot, I usually rush it and don't get a good picture.

I can't post on this doll blog without a picture of a doll! So here's what I've done since I got back from my trip: I sewed two Christmas dresses! I hope to make a few more in the coming week. Do you like the cute little bows in their hair? I found them in a store called Icing in the mall in Little Rock. They are made for humans, but are PERFECT for dolls!

Autumn Beauty

No spring nor summer beauty hath such grace
as I have seen in one autumnal face.

John Donne (Elegy IX: The Autumnal)

This beautiful face is Bonnie, my Raspberry Sorbet Blythe doll.

Isn't the quote from Donne just perfect? I took this picture, then looked for an appropriate quote online. I've heard of John Donne before, but didn't know that he was a 16th-century poet. This Blythe hobby makes me smarter!

Happy Election Day!

Don't forget to vote, America!

I actually voted early, by absentee ballot, because I'll be travelling on election day. This sticker was included with the ballot, so I will be wearing it proudly. (And because I was travelling, I neglected to post this on the 8th! But I do like this photo, so I am posting it a few days late.)

Bow Wow Trad

I don't always open a new doll right away. Case in point: Bow Wow Trad, who has been waiting quietly on the shelf in my sewing room for the past six months or so! I felt that I needed a treat today, so I deboxed her. Her name is Veronica. I'm showing her off with all her accessories, since she came with so much good stuff! I especially love her boots, and her glasses.

Waiting...Waiting...

May just has one question:
"Is it Halloween yet?"

May is my Melomelomew Middie Blythe doll.  Her outfit (except for the bag, boots and broom) came from Junie Moon.

Haunted Carnival

Although she is usually the first one in the gate of a travelling carnival, Jubilee suddenly felt a sense of foreboding
that caused her to hesitate and ask herself, "Should I?"

The doll is Simply Thumpty Thump. This carnival set is from Department 56.

are you ready?

Baking Fun

Do what you love; love what you do--that's Grace's motto.
She loves to bake, because it is a great outlet for her creativity,
and best of all, she makes her family and friends happy
by sharing the special treats with them.

This picture reminds me of ME! After college I went to cooking school, and my favorite classes were baking and pastry-making.

Thank you to my friend Susan Weller for the Barbie mixer set! It included the blue mixer and the big pink bowl, as well as the cupcake tin, heart-shaped measuring spoons, and the pink and blue cupcake in the center. They are so cute and perfect for Blythe.

It's Sushi Time

When life get stressful from school, work, hurricanes, or elections, Calliope and Ellie get some take-out sushi. Sushi makes everything better.

All the little props on the table (and the chopsticks) are a set of Barbie accessories. My friend Susan W. sent them to me as a surprise, along with another set that I will feature in an upcoming photo. Thanks so much for thinking of me, Susan!

Planning Ahead

Penny always chooses her outfit the night before, so she won't have to rush to get ready in the morning. The new sugar skull panties will go great with the monster-print dress--even though no one will know she's wearing them, except the other girls in the locker room when she's changing for her gym class.

Penny is my Cloud 9 Bowl Blythe doll. The fun Halloween bedding set is by Goodnight Sweet Blythe on Facebook.

Mummy Warning

A warning to anyone who plans to go as a mummy for Halloween: there is one thing you must think of BEFORE you start getting wrapped up...

October Mantel

I've decorated our fireplace mantel for October. BOO!

The quilt and the clock always stay where they are, so I worked around them by adding spiderwebs all over the clock, and bats on the quilt. With the addition of plenty of Blythe dolls in Halloween-themed outfits, and some inexpensive props from Target, we are feeling quite spooky around here.

In case you're wondering which releases these Blythes are, here are their names from left to right: I Love You It's True, Playful Raindrops, Milky Way Sugar, Prima Dolly Amaryllis, Middie Lena Elena, and Simply Bubble Boom.

Sugar Skulls

Sitting in her favorite chair, Calliope is working on
a Halloween surprise for her sisters: cute little sugar skulls
 embroidered on panties!

Pretty Calliope is my Can Can Cat Blythe doll. The panties were a custom order in my etsy shop.

Good Advice

You can take it from Penny, who learned the hard way:
if you know you are going to be home alone all night,
DO NOT read a scary book!

Penny is my Cloud 9 Bowl Blythe doll.

Many thanks to Angie Coppi (Goodnight Sweet Blythe on Facebook) who made the frightfully fun pillows on the sofa. There is also a matching sleep mask and throw blanket that I will show off soon.

Shhhh!

Aaawwww...the little twins fell asleep in their favorite chair as they looked at pictures in their story book. Shhhh, don't wake them!

They are Ivanka Corneille and Connie Corneille Petite Blythe dolls. Number 3 in the "Our Favorite Chair" series.

Birthday Chair

As she headed to her favorite chair with her first cup of coffee, Claire was truly surprised to discover that Bree and April had gotten up extra early to wish her a happy birthday.

From left to right, they are: I Love You It's True, Lena Elena, and Nellie Nibbles.

This is the second in a series of Blythe photos using our favorite chair as the centerpiece.

Everyone's Favorite Chair

We have a saying around here:
"If you want the best seat in the house,
move the cat!"

This is my Miss Sally Rice Blythe doll.

This is the first of what I hope will be a series of pictures using this chair (which is actually a pincushion, but is perfect for my dolls) as the centerpiece.

Shoe Love

Everyone loves something. Ellie loves shoes.

Ellie is my Ichigo Heaven Blythe doll. How did she get her name, you ask? Here's the story: I was in a Blythe sundries swap in a group on Facebook. My swap partner had just gotten a new doll and was talking to me about what to name her. She was considering a few names, but Ellie was her favorite, and as soon as she seemed sure about it, I went ahead and made a dress for the doll with the name Ellie embroidered on it, to send as part of the swap. Well, wouldn't you know, my partner decided not to go with the name Ellie after all!  Since I had this nice dress on my hands, my next new doll got the dress and the name.

it's what you see.

While others passed by without giving the shrubbery a second glance, Bonnie (Raspberry Sorbet) looked more closely and saw something unusual.

Art, Part II

Kiki dreams of the day when her art will hang in famous galleries and be appreciated by millions...for now, it hangs in the hallway, and is only appreciated by her sisters.

My daughter Jenna made all these littles works of art for me and my dollies. These dolls are Alice (Simply Sparkly Spark) and Kiki (Yellow Marshmallow). Kiki was known as Kitty until recently, when someone commenting on a picture of her on Facebook mis-read her name and called her Kiki. I like it so much, it's sticking with her!

We "Heart" Art

The cute artwork on the easel is a sketch my daughter Jenna made for me as a Mother's Day card this year. I love it when she draws my dolls! Her art is usually very different than this...you can see for yourself in her Etsy shop: Jenna Andersen Art Shop.

The blue-haired girl is Alice, my Simply Sparkly Spark Neo Blythe doll. The pink-haired girl is Kiki (formerly Kitty), my Yellow Marshmallow middie Blythe doll.
