A Little Birdie

A little birdie told me that a job will seem easier if I whistle while I work. The bird is right!

This Blythe doll is Zyanya Remembers. This picture started out being for the theme “fresh” (as in, freshly washed laundry) but then I added the bird and it went in a completely different direction!

Today Is The Day

Today is the day to start fresh, to eat right, to live healthy.

These Blythe dolls are Cousin Olivia (wearing Bohemian Beats Again’s stock outfit, and Country Summer’s hat) and and Gerda Eternity (wearing Enchanted Petal’s stock outfit.) The produce stand and produce are partly Barbie and partly My Life As doll play sets. The background is a jigsaw puzzle.

Farmer’s Market

Here’s some good advice from seasoned shoppers Gidget and Cherry: when you shop at a farmers market, bring your own bags or baskets to carry your purchases. The small businesses will thank you!

These Blythe dolls are both Cherry Beach Sunset; I’ve had Gidget since she was released in 2015, and Cherry just joined us a couple of weeks ago (thanks, Susan!) The background is a jigsaw puzzle I just completed…but when it was half done, I thought I was going to have to throw it away. I had just made myself a big iced coffee, and my fingers were a bit wet, so as I set it down on the table, it slipped out of my hand and spilled EVERWHERE, including on this puzzle. After it dried, though, I was able to complete it, but it does smell of coffee! I decided to try saving the puzzle as a background for doll photos, so I put packing tape on the back and it is fairly stable. I don’t think it will work vertically, but as a flat lay it’s fine.

Artist at Work

“I sometimes think there is nothing so delightful as drawing.” —Vincent Van Gogh

Song of London Mary practices drawing her horse, Maximus. I found a drawing set for 18” dolls that included (among other things) a sketchbook and these lovely little drawings. Thank you, Angie, for the idea for this picture!

Splendor

Read!

Read more books—they’re good for your brain!

This Blythe doll is Hollywood, wearing Ichigo Heaven’s stock dress. This picture is for the challenge theme “Read More Books” in the Blythe Pure and Simple group on Facebook.

I read a lot. Right now I’m reading—and really enjoying—the latest book in the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. What are you reading?

New Scooter

It’s a great day for a scooter ride!

I found this amazing little scooter at my local antique mall this week. This scale-model replica of a 1939 Garton Batwing Scooter was sold by Hallmark in 1997. It has a functional kickstand and the wheels really turn. Have fun, Mondrian!

Pillows!

Do you ever wish you could just roll around in a big pile of pillows and teddy bears? I know I do! If only Angie Coppi made these pillows in human size! Oh well, I guess I will just have to live vicariously through my dolls. Come to think of it…that’s exactly what I always do, when I style my Blythes and set up little scenes to photograph.

This Middie Blythe doll is Francoise Ananassa. The pillows are all by the talented Angie Coppi.

St. Patrick’s Day 2022

Happy St. Patrick’s Day from Lady Panacea.

It’s Spring!

Daffodils mean spring to me, even though the calendar says it’s still a few days away. It’s wonderful to see their cheerful yellow blooms in my garden.

This Blythe doll is Mandy Cotton Candy.

Hollywood

Here’s Hollywood! She’s the other new-to-me BL Blythe who joined my dolly family last week. As I did with Mondrian, I’m getting to know her by washing and brushing her hair, trying on different outfits, and taking her picture. She’s adorable!

Mondrian

Here’s Mondrian, one of the newest additions to my Blythe family. She has quite a different look and feel from my other Blythes, since she is my first BL, and I’m getting to know her by dressing her, brushing her hair, and taking her picture. She’s a cutie!

Just in case this phrase is new to anyone, let me explain that “Hold your horses” is an English-language idiom that means “slow down” or “wait a moment.” Some dolls just take things too literally!

Comparison

If you put your best foot forward, your day will be great!

Song of London Mary (left) and Minty Magic (right) are side by side so you can see how the first Good Smile Company Blythe doll compares to a Takara Blythe. There’s a side view below.

Song of London Mary

Why be ordinary, when you can be extraordinary? BE EXTRA!

This is my newly arrived Song of London Mary. This Blythe has got some hair! So much hair! So much more hair than any of my other 90 Blythes! Enough hair for two dolls! It wasn’t greasy out of the box, but it was smashed together and rather unbrushable, so I washed it with Dawn Ultra Platinum. After it dried I could brush it, but it was a bit too fluffy, so I calmed it down with doll wig spray. As you can see, it still has a ton of volume.

Since this is the first Blythe made by the manufacturer Good Smile Company, I wondered if she would be different from the Takara Blythes. Yes, she is different, in several small ways. I compared her to Minty Magic for the following comments. Her nose is possibly slightly smaller…but her profile is exactly the same. Her eyes seem to be set back a bit more, making her eye holes appear larger. Her bottom lip is fuller. Her fingers have a bit more curve to them. And that’s it! Those are the only things I noticed, aside from the writing on the back of her head and body that indicates the new manufacturer.

I am happy to say that, even with these changes, I love her! She is a gorgeous addition to my collection.

Sew!

Prima Dolly Melon poses with my work in progress: another green dress to celebrate spring and St. Patrick’s Day. I love making these little sleeveless dresses. They come together quickly so I get a sense of accomplishment more often.

Welcome!

“Welcome to the present moment. Here. Now. The only moment there ever is.”  —Eckhart Tolle

Three girls arrived today: Cherry Beach Sunset, Mondrian, and Hollywood! They are rejoining their friend Good Neighbor Cafe who has been here for about a year. Thanks to my friend Susan for letting them all come to live here with me!

Spring Green

Happy March! This month makes me think of green because of St. Patrick’s Day and the first day of spring, so I decided that another Pantone-inspired post was in order. I just finished sewing this very green dress and noticed that it was perfect on Cream Cheese and Jam. I love it when a theme comes together!

The bodice of the dress is made from the background fabric in the picture. I wanted to jazz it up, so I embroidered flowers on most of the little circles, and added leaves and French knots to finish the look.

I Don’t Mind

Be who you are and say how you feel, because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.  —Dr. Seuss

This Blythe doll is Prima Dolly Amaryllis, looking great in a fabulous new-to-us pantsuit by Rosiee Gelutie. I love the colors and fabrics. And what about this cute red chair? I came across it online at Michael’s. It’s called a “Tabletop Chair Accent”. I call it the perfect prop for doll pictures!
