Nylon

Blythe-a-Day Feb 28, 2015 Nylon

Whether at home or at the park, nylons are always appropiate legwear.

This is absolutely all I could think of for "nylon"! I am looking forward to seeing what other people did with this theme on Flick'r.

White

Blythe-a-Day Feb 27, 2015 "White"

There's a LOT of white around here today, because we just had a blizzard! Wendy bravely volunteered to got outside for a picture. The title of this is "No, I'm Not Cold, Why Do You Ask?"

I couldn't let the opportunity to take a picture with a cat slip by, so today there is a second picture! Here's Wendy with Q-Tip. I know this isn't the greatest composition, with the kitchen in the background, but it's hard to make cats stay where you want them for long, and it's the best I could do.

Wendy is a Simply Lilac Blythe doll (2009, RBL).

That Well-Known Holiday, Dragobete

Blythe-a-Day Feb 24 2015 Dragobete

Bonnie is a certified bird-lover, so Dragobete* is her favorite holiday--even though she's not Romanian!

*Dragobete. This is a traditional Romanian holiday to celebrate the coming of Spring. This is said to be "the day when the birds are betrothed" and is some ways Dragobete is like St Valentine's Day.

Bonnie was my very first Blythe doll, and I love her so! She is a Raspberry Sorbet (2011, RBL)

Craft and Creating

Blythe-a-Day Feb 23, 2015

Claire and Eve catch up on their gossip while knitting sweaters to donate to the local homeless shelter. (Claire might need to do a little less talking if she wants that sweater to be wearable...)

Heritage

Blythe-a-Day Feb. 21, 2015 "Heritage"

When Eve spent the afternoon looking at old family photos, she noticed something disturbing: no one in the pictures looks like she does. They all have such small heads! She can't help but wonder, "Was I adopted???"

Milk That Cow!

Blythe-a-Day, Feb. 18, 2015 (Cows/milk)

Milking a cow is a lot of work, but Daphne discovered that is it totally worth it when she gets to enjoy that fresh milk!

The wonderful background in this picture is a painting done by my daughter Jenna (currently a student at the School of Art at Virginia Commonwealth University).

Butterflies

Blythe-a-Day Feb. 17, 2015

Merry gets a happy feeling in her heart when she wears her butterfly dress.

This picture is not at all what I planned to do for the "butterfly" theme--I had a mental image of a doll chasing a butterfly with a net, which meant I would need to make a dolly-sized butterfly net...and I soon realized that I didn't have time to mess around with that, so I had to go with what I already had on hand. This is one of the more interesting discoveries I've made as I take a doll picture every day: things often turn out differently than I imagined they would, but they usually turn out okay!

Favorite Boots

Blythe-a-Day Feb 16, 2015

Cat is an artist with her own personal style. These boots that she "borrowed" from her friend Nicky Lad are her favorite footwear--they go perfectly with her hair (and eyes)!

Pop Art

Blythe-a-Day Feb. 10, 2015

Today's theme is Pop Art. I thought of Andy Warhol and Campbell's Tomato Soup cans...and I pulled some tomato soup out of my pantry...but in the end, I decided that a simple image of Blythe done in crazy colors would be the best way to go.

I used PicMonkey to color the photo and make the collage.

The model is Jubilee, my Simply Thumpty Thump (2010, FBL)

Roses (and Panties)

Blythe-a-Day Feb. 9, 2015

Eve can't decide what career to choose. Today she is practicing to be an underwear model. Here's her pitch:

ROYGBIV

Blythe-a-Day Feb. 8, 2015

With a theme like "Celebrate Color", what else could I do??

I love things that are bright and colorful, which is undoubtedly why I prefer the fantasy-haired Blythe dolls. It makes me happy just to look at them!

Monopoly

Blythe-a-Day, Feb. 7, 2015

It's a tense competition, and at the moment there is no clear frontrunner.

These Blythes are Simply Peppermint (my Hope) and Simply Lilac (my Wendy). They were released in 2009 and have the RBL face mold.

The large Monopoly game is a special edition that was released in 1995 for Monopoly's 60th anniversary. I actually won it in a McDonald's giveaway--I peeled off a sticker from the side of a food container, and it was an instant winner!

When Waverly heard that a Doll Art Museum was coming to town, she put all her obligations on hold so she could visit on opening day. Dolls are her passion, and she was very impressed with the art.

Setsubun

Blythe-a-Day February 3

Eve is totally focused on having the best Setsubun EVER!!

What? You've never heard of Setsubun?? Haha, neither had I, until I read the themes for the Blythe-a-Day Feb. 2015 Flick'r group! Here's the explanation from the Japan National Tourism Organization website:

Setsubun is the day preceding risshun that is the first day of spring according to the old Japanese calendar, or the so-called lunar calendar. On the day of Setsubun, there is the custom of throwing roasted soybeans while chanting "In with Fortune! Out with Evil" in order to prevent evil ogres from entering one's house. It is believed that the ogres are warded off by throwing beans, and that good fortune will then come to one's home. On this day, events with entertainers and athletes are held at shrines all over the country. According to Japanese tradition, if you eat the same number of beans as your age, you will enjoy a year of good health.

Hearts (Again)

Blythe-a-Day, February 2: Hearts

This is a re-do of a photo I took last week, of two dolls with my heart collection. I made changes to emphasize the "heart" theme: I used dolls that have red and pink hair; their outfits have hearts on them; and the hearts are arranged around the dolls to form a large heart.

I often look at pictures I've posted and notice a few things I would like to change to improve the image, so this time I went ahead and did it!

Giveaway Winner

Thank you to all who left comments on my January posts. It's always a thrill to see that someone has taken the time to leave a remark! Thank you thank you thank you!!!

London volunteered to help me choose the winner of the Blythe panty giveaway. She let me write the names of all who commented, then she chose one name from the basket. And the winner is....

Kaleidoscope Kustoms

I will contact the winner; she will have a choice of any of my panty designs, past or present (because my Etsy store inventory is quite low at the moment.)

I Want to Hold Your Hand

This photo is for the Blythe-a-Day February Flick'r group (the link is HERE ). This is my first attempt to follow a daily theme for Blythe photos, so I am both nervous (that I may not be able to think of a good set-up for some of the themes) and excited (to see how the other members of the group interpret the themes). One upside of having a list for the month is that I can plan ahead and work ahead--I can start gathering props and thinking about how I will pose the dolls. Up until now I've just looked around my house to find inspiration each day--and each day I've worried that I might not find it!
