Part 30: Goodbye!

Part 30: Pippi’s prank (setting the clock back an hour) was soon noticed, and after laughing and calling her a “cute mischief maker”, everyone gathered their belongings and headed out the door. Grandmother hugged and kissed each one as she said goodbye, and they all agreed that this had been the best Thanksgiving ever!

This picture is for “Kiss them all” on Flickr and “Red hair” on Facebook.

And so concludes our story! It was so much fun for me to use the daily prompts as the basis for a single narrative, thanks to Nancy’s great idea to take the prompts from the poem “Over the River and Through the Woods.” Thanks for the fun time, Nancy!

Part 29: Saving Time

Part 29: Pippi noticed that the time was getting late, which meant that soon everyone would leave this happy Thanksgiving gathering and go home. What could she do to make the fun last a little longer? **Light bulb moment!** She quietly pulled a chair next to the big clock, and, with her monkeys keeping watch, she stood on the chair to turn the clock hands back one hour.

Part 28: Snowball

Part 28: After the Thanksgiving feast, Grandmother opened the refrigerator to put away the leftovers, only to discover that it was full of snowballs! Glancing around, she noticed the likely culprit watching her from the doorway. “Pippi, do you know anything about this?” “Yes I do, Grandmother! My cousins and I wanted to have a snowball fight after dinner, but the snow was melting fast, so we saved our snowballs in the refrigerator! Wasn’t that a good idea?” “Yes, that was some creative thinking! Let’s put these into some buckets and you girls can go outside for your snowball fight now, and I can put the food away.” And so they did.

These Blythe dolls are Hollywood and Jolly Jumbly Pippilotta for “Play snowball” on Flickr and “Red hair” on Facebook.

Part 27: Happy Thanksgiving!

Part 27: Grandmother gathered small groups of her family members for different pictures. This is the Thanksgiving card she made with Grace and Apple. Wishing everyone a happy Thanksgiving!

These Blythe dolls are Parson Grace, Hollywood, and Apple Jamlicious. The beautiful turkeys are vintage salt and pepper shakers. (This is not actually one of the prompts in the Blythe a Day group; I will continue with the prompts again tomorrow.)

Part 26: Set The Table

Part 26: As the champion of the Monopoly tournament, Patty won the right to arrange the cornucopia that will be the centerpiece of the Thanksgiving table. Just in case she needs any help, her sisters are willing to offer their advice. “It needs more eggplant!” “Have you thought of corn?”

These Blythe dolls are Sailing Dominique, Patty Patch, and Juno Estella, for “Set the table” on Flickr (out of order to fit my story line) and “Red hair” on Facebook. The beautiful cornucopia is by Jim Shore.

Part 25: Let’s Put On a Play!

Part 25: Using the costumes they found in the old cabinet for inspiration, the children came up with a play about a boy (played by Pippi, wearing lederhosen) who rescues lost pets (played by Grace and Apple, wearing cat and rabbit costumes). The acting was energetic and enthusiastic, and everyone agreed that it was a first-rate play.

These Middie Blythe dolls are Parson Grace, Apple Jamlicious, and Jolly Jumbly Pippilotta for “A first rate play” on Flickr and “Red hair” on Facebook. The cat and rabbit costumes are stock outfits from other Middies. The lederhosen outfit is for a Madame Alexander doll; I found the outfit—without the doll—at the antique mall.

Part 24: Costumes

Part 24: The younger girls heard Grandmother calling them into the bedroom, so they hurried to see what she wanted. “Girls, there are some old costumes here in this cabinet; maybe you could use them to put on a little play before dinner?” They all agreed that this was a splendid idea, and they got busy planning it.

These Blythe dolls are Hollywood, Parson Grace, Jolly Jumbly Pippilotta, and Apple Jamlicious for “The children hark” on Flickr and “Red hair” on Facebook.

Part 23: Dogs Bark

Part 23: Cindy entered the house and set her cake on the table to a lively chorus of barking. “They only get excited like that when they see you,” said Grandmother. “I guess they like you the best!” “I think they like the doggie treats in my pocket!”

These Blythe dolls are Cinema Princess and Hollywood for “The dogs do bark” on Flickr and “Red hair” on Facebook.

Part 22: Cake

Part 22: Singing a happy little song about her favorite thing, Cindy hurries to Grandmother’s house, carrying her contribution to the dessert table: the very, very best of all desserts: CAKE!

This Blythe doll is Cinema Princess, wearing Cream Cheese and Jam’s stock outfit (except for the socks and boots) for “Bring Desserts” on Flickr and “Red Hair” on Facebook. The background is wrapping paper and the cake is an ornament from Target. Cake happens to be my favorite thing too.

Part 21: Pudding

Part 21: Grace and Apple are aspiring actresses, and they never miss a chance to practice their acting skills. They volunteered to make the pudding. Are they making pudding? No! They are pretending to make a pudding commercial!

These Middie Blythe dolls are Parson Grace and Apple Jamlicious for “pudding” on Flickr and “red hair” on Facebook.

Part 20: Fun!

Part 29: Pippi finished her pancakes, then ran outside to greet her cousins…and more importantly, to see the pedal cars they were driving. Grace generously offered to let Pippi try her car, so she and Apple zoomed all around, having more fun than is probably legal.

These Middie Blythe dolls are Jolly Jumbly Pippilotta and Apple Jamlicious for “Hurrah for the fun” on Flickr and “Red hair” on Facebook. Pedal cars from Hallmark; construction paper background.

Part 19: Grandmother’s Cap

Part 19: While waiting for the turkey to finish cooking, Grandmother and Cassie relaxed on the sofa. “I like your cap, Grandmother; is it new?”
“Yes it is! It’s the latest thing; it has built-in headphones, so I can listen to music or podcasts anywhere!”
“You are such a modern woman!”

These Blythe dolls are Hollywood and Prima Dolly Cassis for “Grandmother’s cap” on Flickr and “Red hair” on Facebook. They are sitting in Madeline’s Pop Up Dollhouse.

Part 18: The Children Are Here

Part 18: Molly heard a kerfuffle in the yard, so she went outside to investigate. What she saw caused her to exclaim “Oh, Grandmother dear, the children are here! And you won’t believe this: they drove themselves here in their pedal cars!!”

These Middie Blythe dolls are Apple Jamlicious and Parson Grace, and the Neo Blythe is Mod Molly, for “The children are here” on Flickr and “Red hair” on Facebook. The fabulous pedal cars from Hallmark are reproductions of actual antique toys.

Part 17: Pancakes

Part 17:  Pippi’s stomach was grumbling. “It’s hard to wait until dinner. I’m hungry NOW! Cousin Cassie, could you make me a snack?”
“I sure could! How about pancakes?”
“Yes please—Wow!”

These Blythe dolls are Jolly Jumbly Pippilotta and Prima Dolly Cassis for “Hard to wait” on Flickr and “Red hair” on Facebook. The pancakes are an ornament that I just found at Target.

Part 16: Nap Time

Part 16:  Grandmother led the tortoises to the kitchen so she could put the pies away, but the tortoises, being tortoises, were extremely slow to arrive. “I believe I have time for a little nap while I wait for Shelley and Myrtle,” Grandmother thought to herself.  Her “little nap” lasted an hour; the pies arrived just before she woke up.

This Blythe doll is Hollywood for “Extremely slow” on Flickr.

Part 15: Tortoises and Pies

Part 15: The front door of Grandmother’s house opened and closed, and then someone cried out in a loud voice, “Hey look, everyone, cousin Cassie is here! She brought her tortoises, and PIES!”

Part 14: A Warm Fire

Part 14

“I’m sorry Polly ruined your valuable doll, Grandmother.”

“Oh well; easy come, easy go! I didn’t even know that doll was in the attic.  Let’s just warm our toes by the fire and forget about it”

These Blythe dolls are Hollywood and Mod Molly for “Toes” on Flickr and “Red hair” on Facebook. I’ve done pictures of dolls in front of the fireplace before, so I wanted to try this one turned around, with the fire in front of the dolls, as if the camera was actually in the fireplace.

Part 13: Oh! My Nose!

Part 13: “Cousin Molly, you know about antiques; look at this old Barbie that I found in the attic. Do you think she’s valuable?”

“Holy smoke! This is the most coveted of vintage Barbies, and she is in perfect condition! I recently appraised one at Christie’s, and she sold for ten thousand dollars!!” *A brief hubbub ensues* “Nooooooo! Polly! Bad bird! You bit her nose right off! Now this Barbie is WORTHLESS!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!”

These Blythe dolls are Mod Molly and Jolly Jumbly Pippilotta for “Nose” on Flickr and “Red Hair” on Facebook.

Part 12: Wind

Part 12: Oh how the wind does blow! Suddenly, the front door banged open and gusts of swirling snow filled the room! Astonishingly, when the snow settled, there stood Cousin Molly with her pet parrot, Polly! “Sorry I’m late, I was held up at work” she said. Molly works as an antiques appraiser at Christie’s in New York City. (Yes, THAT Christie’s.)

This Blythe doll is Mod Molly, wearing her stock outfit, for How the Wind Does Blow on Flickr and Red Hair on Facebook. The swirling snow is cut paper.

Part 11 In the Attic

Part 11: While the others were playing Monopoly, Pippi decided to go upstairs to explore the attic. Her cousins claimed that Grandmother never throws anything away, and they were right! Broken toys, tattered books, and outdated electronics filled the space. Pippi found an interesting doll. “This Barbie doll looks old; I wonder if she is valuable?”

This Middie Blythe doll is a Jolly Jumbly Pippilotta for “For doll or top” on Flickr and “Red hair” on Facebook. The background is a jigsaw puzzle. The dolls at the bottom of the picture came from the antique mall. The Barbie (with her case) is a Hallmark ornament.

Part 10: Monopoly

While Grandmother and Pippi were enjoying their sleigh ride, the cousins started their annual Monopoly tournament. These girls are very competitive, so once it starts, the game will not stop until someone has been declared the champion!

These Blythe dolls are Juno Estella, Patty Patch, and Sailing Dominique for “We would not stop” on Flickr and “Red Hair” on Facebook. The game is called “World’s Smallest Monopoly” and it is complete in every tiny detail.

Part 9: Through the Snow

“Well, I’ve had just about enough excitement for one day, and it’s still early!” said Grandmother, after she and Pippi drove the horses back home through the snow. “It’s good to be home! I could use a nap.”

Part 8: Side Dish

Part 8:  Meanwhile, back at Grandmother’s house, doorbell rang and someone cried out, “Hey everybody! Cousin Patty is here, and she’s brought her famous creamed onions! And her dogs!”

Part 7: Here We Go!

Part 7:  “Here we go! Not so fast Pippi—be careful—slow down!” Pippi’s exuberance far outweighed her horse-driving skills, and the sleigh flipped over! Fortunately she and her horse were okay; even the sleigh was in working order once it was uprighted. No harm done!

Part 6: Sleigh Ride

Part 6  “Well, I’ll be! I never saw a snowstorm come up so fast in all my born days! Come on, Pippi, let’s go for a sleigh ride!” In no time at all, they changed their clothes, Grandmother hitched up the horses, and they were off!

These Blythe dolls are Hollywood and Jolly Jumbly Pippilotta for “Carry the sleigh” on Flickr and “Red haired girl” on Facebook. The larger horse is Maximus from Tangled. I’m pretty sure the smaller horse is from an animated movie too, but I don’t know which one.

Part 5: Meet Maximus

Part 5:  Grandmother lives on a beautiful farm; Pippi’s monkeys are more than welcome, because they aren’t the only animals there. “Pippi, meet my new horse, Maximus. He knows the way to pull the big sleigh; it’s too bad we don’t have any snow right now, or we could go for a ride.”

These Blythe dolls are Hollywood and Jolly Jumbly for “The Horse Knows the Way” on Flickr and “Red Haired Girl” on Facebook.

Part 4: Grandmother’s House

Part 4

As they ran through the woods, Pippi quickly outpaced her sisters, and reached Grandmother’s house long before they did. She knocked on the door with a loud *rat-a-tat-tat* because she couldn’t wait to see her grandmother again!

Part 3: Through the Woods

Part 3
After disembarking the ferry, the girls had only to follow the wooded path to grandmother’s house.
“These woods are scary!”
“I think we should run!”
“Don’t drop the potatoes!”

Part 2: Over the River

Part 2

The next day, Pippi packed her suitcase and walked to the ferry, which would take her over the river, where Grandmother lives, to celebrate Thanksgiving with the family. Imagine her surprise when she met her two older sisters on the dock! Then, imagine THEIR surprise when they saw that she had brought her monkeys with her! All aboard!

Nov 1: Potatoes

Part 1

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, Pippi stopped by the grocery store to buy her contribution to the big family meal: potatoes! Pippi is the world’s youngest primatologist, and she brings her monkey companions with her everywhere she goes. They were surprisingly well-behaved in the grocery store.

This is my new Middie Blythe doll, Jolly Jumbly Pippilotta, wearing her stock outfit. She will appear frequently in my pictures this month, as I try something new: each day’s photo will be part of a story which will unfold as the month goes on, following the themes in the November Blythe a Day group on Flickr: “Friendsgiving”. (A few of the daily themes will be out of order to fit my story line.) This picture is for “Bring potatoes” in the Flickr group, and for “Red-haired girl” on Facebook.
